This student is making strides towards her dream of becoming a doctor As a junior at Garfield High School in 2008, Tequila was preparing to begin the college application process. Here is what she had to say about it. "My name is Tequila Logan and I’m proud to say that I’m a junior at Garfield High School. When I was a 5th grade student, I dreamt of becoming a doctor. This dream is still alive for me today. The importance of a program like Rainier Scholars is NOT that it created a dream for me. After all, many students like me come to the program with hopes and dreams about what they want to be. Instead, Rainier Scholars helps students make dreams a reality by the way it supports us as individuals. When I was a freshman, I remember thinking that colleges didn’t look at freshman year grades and I probably would have not tried so hard. But my academic counselor kept at me, pushing me to push myself. Because my counselor knew me well - my strengths and my weaknesses - they knew what I needed to hear to motivate me and keep me sharp. As I start my college applications in the fall, I’m grateful to them because I am in a stronger place today. No matter where my education takes me and the jobs I will have in my career, I know in my heart I will make a difference as a community leader." This fall Tequila began her studies at the University of Washington as a member of the Freshman class. She is one step closer to her dreams. |
