Reflections from the Executive Director

by Rafael del Castillo, January 2022

We start this new year with a spirit of optimism, fueled by possibilities.

We are recruiting our first cohort in Tacoma and our 22nd cohort in Seattle. Our high school seniors are beginning to receive college acceptances.  With graduation on the horizon, our college seniors are getting ready to launch their careers.

Buoyed by your overwhelming support, we are launching a new strategic plan that will empower us to serve more students and increase our impact.

Over the coming months, you’ll hear more about this process and what we hope to achieve.

To kick-off our strategic planning, we’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on our organization’s history, mission, and guiding principles. A consistent theme has been the many ways Rainier Scholars serves as a catalyst for change – by helping scholars maximize their potential and providing access to educational opportunities and greater choice; by nurturing the next generation of leaders, who are transforming schools, workplaces, and communities, and perhaps most important – by supporting families as they dream of bright futures for their children and future generations.

Our annual signature event will be virtual again this year, allowing us to welcome a large audience from near and far.

Please mark your calendars for April 27, when we will once again celebrate our scholars and their accomplishments and will look towards a future of growth and progress, as together we build a more equitable society.

I hope you’ll join us.
