Reflections from the Executive Director, December 2022

I love the holiday season. For me, it’s a time of gratitude, giving, and gathering. A time to reflect on what’s most important in my life and make memories with the people I love. That means returning home and connecting with family. No matter where my travels and career have taken me in the world, I always try to return home to South Florida to celebrate with my large and lively Cuban-American family!

Many of our scholars will be returning home, too. Completing finals and enjoying a well-deserved break. And although this time of year is filled with excitement, I am reminded that the world we live in is not easy for our young people. From the long-term impacts of the pandemic to political and economic uncertainty, the headwinds facing our scholars are strong.

That’s why the Rainier Scholars mission is more important than ever. What we do works. And you help bring this work to life. Whether it’s a care package you give to remind our scholars they’re always a part of the RS family, volunteering to review résumés at a career and leadership event, or making a generous donation to support our programs, you are an important member of the Rainier Scholars community.

I am grateful for you. Thank you for believing in our mission, believing in our scholars and families, and believing in equitable access to education.

Highlighted below are meaningful ways that you can affirm your belief in our students and share your time, treasure, or talent with Rainier Scholars.

I wish you a joyful season of gratitude, giving, and gathering!

Warmly,

Rafael del Castillo
