Increasing Our Impact to Advance Educational Equity
The Rainier Scholars Strategic Plan is all about growth. We’re growing the impact of our program to serve scholars, families, and alumni better. And we’re growing our geographic footprint to increase the number of students we serve each year. By 2028 we will be on our way to triple the number of students in our program.
We have identified three strategies to guide us in this monumental growth.

Strengthen the Scholar and Family Experience
When we accept a student into our program, the organization makes a 12-year commitment to comprehensive support. Our proven model of success speaks for itself – we take our commitment seriously and hold ourselves accountable to our students and families. That’s why we’re making a significant investment in the evaluation and improvement of our program. Strategy 1 centers scholars and their families with the goal of improving their experiences by researching the impact of our program.
How we will be successful
- Demonstrable quantitative and qualitative evidence of Rainier Scholars’ impact.
- Redouble our efforts to partner with mission-aligned organizations.
- Implement an annual Net Promoter Score of 72 or higher among scholars and families.
Strategy 2
Build a Vibrant Alumni Network
Rainier Scholars alumni are passionate. Passionate about possibility, passionate about community, and passionate about pushing boundaries. They start by sharing a connection to our program and are redefining leadership in their workplaces and communities around the world. Alumni are united in the belief that together we will make a difference and advance the Vision of Rainier Scholars. Strategy 2 centers around cultivating alumni where they can stay connected, give back, share job opportunities, attend events, host trainings, offer advice, and take ownership of their legacy.
How we will be successful
- Co-create and implement with alumni, a plan to activate alumni as a network particularly in support of early career development.
- Institutionalize alumni leadership and mentorship programming.
- Meaningfully engage at least 20% of our alumni population on an annual basis.

Grow College Success
Rainier Scholars is a program that works. With more than 23 years of success and impact data that speaks for itself, we’re expanding our impact in new communities to serve more students. The heart of Rainier Scholars will remain true – our proven cohort model, 12-year commitment to each scholar and family, and comprehensive academic, leadership, career, and social-emotional programming, that systematically removes the barriers to college completion.
How we will be successful
- Support the development of Rainier Scholars – Tacoma as the program continues to grow toward capacity.
- Launch Eagle Prep, a second entry point into Rainier Scholars – Tacoma for 7th grade students.
- Fully launch a third program site and identify a fourth program site in new communities in Washington State.
