Career & Internship Expo 2017

Thursday, July 27th, was the debut of our first-ever Career and Internship Expo, generously hosted by Amazon at Day 1 Tower in South Lake Union. Over 80 Rainier Scholars students, from high schoolers to college to alumni, met with representatives from 30+ companies and organizations sharing career insights, employment opportunities, and effective strategies for building one’s personal brand through LinkedIn, resume and interviewing.
This was a far cry from a typical career fair. Instead, scholars at the Career and Internship Expo were encouraged to bring their questions and LEARN through real conversation rather than hurried booth visits where attendees compete with the masses just to be seen.

“I enjoyed the laid back yet intimate feel of the career conversations I had with a wide range of companies.”
Many thanks to Amazon for giving our Expo a home and generously opening their doors to scholars and partners alike. Kudos to our participating partners for supporting our scholars as they prepare to launch their professional journeys. And to Lora Poepping of Plum Coaching & Consulting and volunteers from Seattle SHRM who, together with Amazon, provided a powerful career readiness experience that our scholars will put to immediate good use.
