LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

High school offers an open door to the future

Developing leadership skills in high school helps bring our scholars one step closer to college and future leadership roles in our community. During our Leadership Development phase, our scholars also gain real-world work experience and an understanding of their college and career options while they continue to strive for academic excellence. We are grateful for the countless school partnerships it takes to fulfill our mission.

Leadership retreats and workshops

In these retreats and workshops, we explore a range of topics, including effective and ethical leadership using seminar-style discussions, role plays and simulations. Retreat themes include:

  • Social contracts
  • Systemic discrimination
  • Equity in education

College planning and extensive support

One of the key goals of our program is admission to four-year colleges or universities. Our director of college counseling works one-on-one with each scholar and their family throughout the college application process and helps with financial aid paperwork. We offer a six-week test prep course for juniors in our program. Scholars will also have many opportunities to meet college representatives from a broad range of schools, including some of the most selective in the country.

“The enrichment I have received from Rainier Scholars will raise me even higher in my next four years.”

Internships

From July to August each summer, our high school students can increase their skills for professional workplace success by participating in our high school internship program. During their 6 to 8-week internship, students will work in professional settings with a dedicated mentor.
